E-Tip Records

E-Tip Records is an indepenedent Record label based here in San Antonio. They mostly produce music such as funk, electro, Acid Jazz, and classic activist music. I was surprised to hear some of the music that they produced. At first I didn't think i would like the sound of it and some of the songs I didn't, but I really like some of it. It is definately extremely different than anything I have ever heard before. This type of music is definately strange to me, perhaps because I have never been introduced to it before, but the music definately has an interesting sound to it. In contrast to many of the songs that we hear all the time on the radio that all sounds exactly the same, you could tell that these songs had the same roots but the all had their own distinct sound to them. Furthermore, many of the songs had little or no lyrics, which was a little surprising to me. I guess that indie music is played for the sheer love of music and the in the mainstream music there is more of a need to find the catchiest tune or verse to that it will sell a lot of copies and make more money for the record companies. After listening to this I realize more that these people who produce indie music from an independent record label really do it because they enjoy it and they just want to show other the music that they think is great, instead of their only incentive being to make money.
